Roles and How to Get Involved
At our financial cooperative, a key principle is that we are democratically owned and controlled by our members. One Member = One Vote.
Members in good standing can also volunteer for positions on the Board and Supervisory Committee.
Board Member
Board members play a vital role in strategic planning, reviewing financials, setting policy, and making important decisions for the credit union. There are seven board seats, each with a 2- or 3-year term. Volunteer commitments include:
- Monthly board meetings
- Required training on financial and compliance topics
- Attendance at credit union events such as the Annual Membership Meeting
- Participation in phone calls and email discussions as needed
Positions are elected, with 1-3 positions opening annually. The election process is guided by the Nominating Committee, led by Executive Vice President Jamie Laughlin.
Supervisory Committee members ensure the safety and soundness of the credit union’s financial and lending practices. There are three seats on this committee, each with a 2-year term. Supervisory committee members are appointed by the board. Volunteer commitment is set by Chair Wendy Thompson. Examples include:
- Monthly and quarterly reviews of documentation and reports
- Attendance at board meetings (required for the chair, optional for other members)
Why choose media credit union?
Member Owned: As a not-for-profit organization, any extra money made is returned to members through better rates on loans and savings, lower fees, or additional services.
Community Focused: We focus on serving the financial needs of our local communities, which benefits the community we live in. Members help each other financially, creating a supportive and collaborative environment.
